Every person longs for a purpose. No matter who they are, no matter what they do, they long for something... more. Some may scoff at this thought, but it is the honest truth. That feeling of something missing in your life, that longing for something else, that is you wishing for a purpose.
In books, a character must have a purpose for the story to mean something. It can be such a great purpose as Frodo traveling to Mordor to destroy an evil item, or such a simple thing as a person having something they want to do before their death.
What is my purpose?
There is only one way to find out your purpose. Prayer. God is the one who has created your purpose, whatever it may be, and He is the one who will reveal your purpose. I'm still not entirely sure what my purpose is, but there are a few things I really get joy from that I feel the Lord has really put a desire in my heart to do.
Acting and singing When I get on stage, something sparks inside me. I love it. I also love to sing, and praise the Lord.
Writing This is the main thing that I think could be used as a blessing and outreach to others. Ever since a young age, I loved to write little stories, and now I'm attempting large books. So many messages can be spread through the written word, but I also just love it for the writing. I love to have a pen, or keyboard at my disposal, and to let the story flow out. Everywhere I go I get ideas for a new story, every day I have to write at least a little bit. I love to share my writing, even if I get nervous that others won't love it like I do. Because I do love my stories. I believe that God gave me the ideas, and even if all the sentences aren't written in a flourish, the underlying story is what matters.
I don't really know the purpose God has prepared me for. But for now, I'll continue pursuing the things I feel He has placed a desire in me to do. I love to act. And I love to write. But most of all, I love to write for the glory of the Greatest Storyteller of them all.
What about you?

I feel like my purpose (other than serving God most importantly) is also acting and writing. I love performing on the stage and writing has always been a huge part of my life. It looks like we have a lot in common then! :)
Yes, serving God is always the biggest purpose.
Indeed! You may be the first writer friend I've met on here who is into stage acting. One of my stage friends has recently gotten into writing though. :P
Same here! I've always wondered why I haven't met more, because to me, stage acting and writing go hand-in-hand. Both allow you to portray someone else, to become another character in a different world, if you get what I mean. :) I guess everyone just has different hobbies, though. :)
Very true. It gives you a lot of writing inspiration as well- helps you to see into the mind of a character. I love it! Are you involved in anything right now? I'm currently portraying Glinda/Auntie Em in Wizard of Oz, and next I'll be doing Les Mis.
That sounds like so much fun! I love The Wizard of Oz. Do you know who you will be in Les Mis yet? That's one of my favorites. Right now, I am in a play called "The Hotel Baltimore" and I am playing someone named Jamie.
I've been having a blast. Unfortunately, no. :/ The auditions aren't until this coming month. It's also a bigger theater group, so currently, I'm just hoping to get in. :) I was in another play with them, but there are going to be a lot more older kids for this show. Though, of course, I would love to be Eponine or Fantine, but really just wanting to get in. :)
I think I've actually heard of The Hotel Baltimore. Has it been fun?
Oh well break a leg! I would also love to play Fantine or Eponine sometime, but just being in Les Mis would make me happy.
I'm having fun in The Hotel Baltimore...the script has a lot of overlapping dialogues, which makes rehearsals interesting. We open in about three weeks.
Yes. Being in Les Mis would make me very happy as well. So I'm hoping!
Good luck! Sounds crazy. We open March 17. Ah! We're getting our costumes today.
Oh fun! How do you like your costume?
I have two, which I like pretty well. Being both Auntie Em and Glinda is interesting. Auntie Em's outfit is way easier to get into, since the Glinda one is a pale pink wedding dress!
Oh the pink dress sounds awesome but if you have to get into it in a hurry then it's not so good. :)
It does sound interesting to play both of those characters. The closest I've been to playing two characters was when some of my friends and I performed a scene from "Into the Woods" and I played Cinderella and the witch. :D
